Anyone know the flying speed of a bee..and can a person out-run a bee.?

An average honey bee can fly at about 22 mph http://www.umt.edu/biology/bees/trivia.h鈥?/a>

The fastest a human can run is about 23 mph http://hypertextbook.com/facts/2000/Kata鈥?/a>Anyone know the flying speed of a bee..and can a person out-run a bee.?

Sorry I supplied stuff about just the honey bee, but you're question didn't specify any more than ';a bee.'; Report Abuse

Bees can reach a maximum speed of 7.25 m/s or 16mph. The speed can increase or decrease depending on local wind speed and direction as compare to the direction of the flight path of the bee.
as fast as i can speed-walk,about 5-10/mph, depending if i'm wearing tennis shoes or sandals.if one is chased by a bee, don't run.bees can sense fear.speed-walking seems more friendly and not as intimidating:) so the chances of getting stung by a bee is not as high.if one is wearing perfume/cologne or is reeking of food such as bbq ribs/etc,then that will only attract the bee even more.now it's time to run.
the world record for a mile is around 4 minutes, which is around 15 mph, or 22 feet per second.

that's very close to the maximum speed for a bee.

and you'd probably not be able to match the speed of a world record runner.

worse, if the bee were following you, it may well be in your slip stream -- which is air following you, and not have to fly nearly as fast as you're running.

btw, an easy fact to remember is that when a car is going 60 mph, it's going 1 mile a minute. that's also 88 feet per second. if you remember those, you'll probably use them several times during your life.

back to the bee, the question will then become, how far will the bee chase you. and that's where 'Africanized bees' come into the picture. normal European honey bees will only chase you a short distance. Africanized bees, on the other hand, have been known to chase people a quarter to a half of a mile. that's why they are so dangerous. that, and the fact that when they get upset, far more of them will try to attack you.
No, a person cannot outrun bees but nevertheless if you are attacked you should still run as hard and as fast as you can because once you've cleared the nest area and are very far from it the bees simply quit attacking.
I never been sting.

So I guess I out run it!

Don't know the speed...
no you cant outrun a bee if its intent on catching you...i noticed them flying alongside the car before at 25-30mph. i got a big bumble-bee after me one time and it chased me around the house AND through it about 3 times before it gave up...it was all over me..
